Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia, also known as low blood sugar:
IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND PREVENTABLE!!!!!

Hypoglycemia is when the blood sugar levels drop. It's often seen in young puppies and can be prevented. Our puppies have access to food 24/7! We recommend this to all new owners.

Typical symptoms of low blood sugar include:
  • Listlessness
  • weakness
  • depression
  • staggering gait
  • tremors
  • lethargy
If you see any of these signs in your puppy , ACT FAST! Each new owner will be educated on how to deal with hypoglycemia before taking their puppy home. Its always recommended to have nutri cal on hand and new owners are advised to give it to their puppy several times a day for the first week until the puppy gets used to its new surroundings. Honey or karo syrup will work wonders on a puppy for is going into a sugar attack. Put the honey/karo syrup in the mouth of the puppy. keep doing this until it pulls out. A trip to the vet is recommended to make sure your puppy's sugar levels are back to where they need to be.
If a puppy continues to have sugar attacks, it needs to be tested by a vet to make sure there are no underlying problems. Sugar attacks can be caused by stress and that is why the nutri cal is advised for the first week that you bring your puppy home.
