Puppy and the vet

Its very important that you and your new puppy have a great relationship with your vet. Your puppy will need to go to the vet regularly for booster shots and regular check ups. If you do not already have a vet, we suggest you do some research into vets in your area. Ask friends and families about their experience with their vet. Visit local clinics and meet the staff. Its always best to have a vet that is knowledgable with toy breeds, chihuahuas especially.  Don't be afriad to ask questions! You want to be able to feel comfortable with your vet and to be able to ask about things that may come up. If you can try to find a clinic that has more then one vet incase your regular one goes on vacation or has to take off work for some reason. Always make sure you know what to do after business hours incase theres an emergency. Some vets will give you a number to call in case such an incident were to happen.

Upon signing our contract, you agree to take your puppy to the vet withing 2 working business days! This may be negotiable if you have contacted us regarding the time.
There are a few things you should do before and while you are at the business to ensure you puppy stays healthy!

Wear the shoe covers that we provide you with before entering the vets office! This will keep any germs on the floor off your shoes, where you could then track it into your home.

Put your puppy in a carrier and keep it in there! Do not take it out to let people see or hold.

Never put your new puppy on the floor or chairs in your vets clinic. You must remember that it is a vet clinic and that sick animals have been there.

Ask that the vet and assistants wash/sanitize their hands before touching your puppy, and make sure that they have sanitized the table before placing your puppy on it. Do not be afraid to ask this!!

Have them put a paper towel on the scale before putting your puppy on it.

Ask that they sanitize the thermometer if they are not using plastic covers.

Change clothes as soon as you get home.

After your puppy recieves  vaccine it may be tired and seem lathargic. Keep a close eye on your puppy for signs of a reaction to the vaccine. If you notice swelling or a rash call your vet immediantly.

Again its very important that your new puppy recieve regular check ups from your vet! We know that you want to do everything possible to keep your puppy happy and healthy and making sure your puppy is recieving vet care will ensure that.
