Reverse sneezing is very common in small breed dogs. Its often confused with a collapsed trachea. While it can be scary, its actually completely harmless! During a reverse sneeze, a dog will often have its head extended and stand still. Reverse sneeze gets its name because the dog rapidly pulls air into its nose , where as in a regular sneeze air is pushed out of the nose. Reverse sneezing can be alarming if you do not know what is happening. A dog will have no ill effects from having a reverse sneezing episode. An episode can last from several seconds to a minute. It will sound like a loud snorting sound. It may help to gently blow into the dogs nose.
